The editors of Physical Review E seek a dynamic and personable colleague for the position of Assistant Editor based at the American Physical Society Editorial Office in Ridge, New York, on Long Island near Brookhaven National Laboratory and Stony Brook University. The primary responsibility is to decide, aided by anonymous peer review, which papers merit publication according to the journal's criteria. The Assistant Editor is expected to take independent actions on submitted manuscripts and also to help with the overall mission of the journals.
The qualified applicant will have a PhD in Physics or a closely related field and postdoctoral experience in an area relevant to the journal (such as statistical, nonlinear, or soft matter physics) and be familiar with the research publication process. An excellent command of written and spoken English is essential. No prior editorial experience is required -- we will train the new editor to develop the necessary skills. We would also welcome an interest in contributing to ongoing efforts by the APS journals to reach out to nonspecialist and general readers. We offer career stability, a competitive salary, and an outstanding benefits package to a qualified individual ready to start a nontraditional career in physics.
