A postdoctoral scholar position in the fields of theoretical AMO and condensed matter is available immediately at University of California, Merced. This postdoctoral scholar is expected to work closely with Professor Chih-Chun Chien. Research topics will be chosen based on mutual interest and interdisciplinary work will be encouraged. In addition to research, other duties for postdoctoral scholar include supervision of graduate and undergraduate students if they have similar research interest, computational equipment setups and maintenance, and other research-related tasks. This job also requires traveling to conferences and presenting research results. The initial appointment is for one year and is renewable for another year upon funding and mutual agreement. The start date is expected to be no later than June 1st, 2014. The salary and benefits package associated with the position are based on those established by the University of California. This search remains open until the position is filled.
The candidate should have a PhD degree in physics or related fields before the start date. Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of many-body theories, AMO physics, condensed matter physics, nonequilibrium physics, or quantum field theory. The candidate should have experience in Linux systems, ability to perform basic numerical calculations, good communication skills, and enthusiasm for physics.
